Sports & Arts in Schools Foundation is a New York City Not-For-Profit Organization that provides direct after-school programming to 30,000 New York City School Children each year. The organization provides quality sport, art and academic activities to elementary, middle and high school students during the school year and over the summer. You would spend a significant amount of time in mentoring and coaching children in two or more after school program locations. You will be partnered up with an expert after school sport director and will provide this individual with needed assistance, logistical advice and guidance. You would also work at SASF’s corporate headquarters assisting the program director with designing and organizing agency wide trainings, sport events and culminating activities. Other duties may and could include refereeing, weekend tournaments, league matches and summer programming, and help with data entry (for record-keeping). This is a Quarter-Time position through AmeriCorps' new "Coach for America" program. Through the proven methods of intentional sports and service learning programming, you will be investing your talents and energy to address youths' pressing needs around childhood obesity, academic failure and anti-social behavior. This part-time internship is for 6 MONTHS, running February through July of 2010; with potential for a 12 month renewal for the 2010-11 school year. Additional Qualifications: Experience teaching, coaching or otherwise working with children. Understanding of Education and/or Physical Education (B/A or on a career path to obtaining a B/A) A passion for empowering underserved kids.
